Environmentally conscious brands to support in 2022

Environmentally conscious brands value sustainability and make active efforts to reduce their carbon footprints. One of my recent blog posts, "A Call to Live Sustainably" provides more insight to reducing your carbon footprint. Despite efforts to be eco-friendly, most brands are still constrained by economic factors that hinder the ability to make a decent profit.

We live in a consumer driven world. It's fast paced, and hardly leaves any room to make conscious decisions about our environmental impact. It's the sad, but relevant truth. As a result, many companies have rebranded, and now practice environmentally conscious habits.

Even still, we can't take brands' claims at face value. Why? Because some companies claim to be eco-friendly, when in reality, they are just hopping on the environmental bandwagon. Complete transparency is the best measurement of an environmentally conscious brand.

I've done some research, and asked my Instagram following (if that's you, thank you for your contribution) about brands they're familiar with, and support. Here are some of the responses I got:

Boxed Water

Boxed Water is a sustainable alternative to plastic bottles and aluminum cans. Their

products are sold in 92% renewable packaging. Aside from this, the company is on a mission to plant trees in US National Forests plagued by wildfire and disease. They pledge to plant 2 trees, for every social media post tagged #BetterPlanet. So far, they have planted 1,201,124 trees! Boxed Water is indeed better.

4Ocean

4Ocean is an apparel company that offers bracelets made from recycled materials. Every bracelet purchased funds the removal of one pound of trash from the ocean and coastlines. They claim to have founded the company on the belief that "business can be a force for good and that the single actions of people, collectively, have the power to change the world". So far, they have recovered 21,527,636 pounds of trash.

DivaCup

This one's for my female readers out there, and believe me, it's life-changing. DivaCup presents a safe and sustainable way to enjoy a better period experience. Women can reduce plastic waste by using a menstrual cup. Menstrual cups are becoming increasingly popular and are now regarded as the most-environmentally friendly alternative to tampons and pads. We can't disregard the global environmental impact this company is making.

Organic Basics

This brand creates long-lasting sustainable basics in the softest organic cotton.

They produce conscious everyday essentials made from soft, natural and renewable fibers. In my latest post, "Fast Fashion: why we need to slow down" I encourage you to invest in timeless pieces, and Organic Basics will surely not disappoint. This impact report reveals how they have prioritized sustainability in past years.

Now what?

You're probably wondering what to do next. I'm by no means advocating that you start throwing out products made by not-so-environmentally-friendly companies (mainly because that would defeat the purpose of reducing waste and pollution). I am, however, encouraging you to be more aware of what brands you choose to support moving forward.

I've compiled a list of brand guides from other popular environmental bloggers and websites to provide you some extra guidance in transitioning to a more environmentally conscious lifestyle.

There are so many other brands founded on eco-friendly practices, and I would love to learn more. Feel free to leave a comment below mentioning brands you use often!
